SO, Beijing a city to visit, friendly and beautiful for more info www.chinamanufacturingguide.com “Beijing” means “northern capital”, in line with the common East Asian tradition whereby capital cities are explicitly named as such. The city has been renamed several times. During the Jin Dynasty, the city was known as Zhongdu (中都) , and then later under the Mongol Yuan Dynasty as Dadu (大都) in Chinese and Daidu to Mongols (also recorded as Cambuluc by Marco Polo). Twice in the city’s history, the name was changed from Beijing (Peking) to Beiping (Peiping) (北平Pinyin: Beiping; Wade-Giles: Pei-p’ing), literally “Northern Peace”. This occurred first under the Hongwu Emperor of the Ming Dynasty, and again in 1928 with the Kuomintang (KMT) government of the Republic of

“Easy Lover” is a hit song performed by Philip Bailey and Phil Collins, and written by Bailey, Collins, and Nathan East. The song appeared on Bailey’s solo album Chinese Wall. Collins has performed the song in his live concerts and it appears on his 1990 album Serious Hits… Live!, as well as his 1998 compilation album, …Hits. The lighthearted video for the song was filmed in London, England and is essentially a music video about the making of a music video. In 2012, DJ/producer Old Flame remixed the song under his Surefire Music series. The newer video made by Justanotheryokel includes movie clips from “Bride of Frankenstein”, “Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein”, and “Weird Science.” The video marked the debut of their joint audio/video collaboration entitled Yokel/Flame.

Entry from: Yangshuo, China Entry Title: “Into the Vast Expanse: China. Yangshuo.” Entry: “My first impression of China and it’s people was in stark contrast to hawks of the Vietnam tourist industry. All alone on my tod on a bus filled with itinerant Cambodian workers (I managed a cheeky hello in Khmer to which the girls all shyed away in bashful laughter) I fell asleep and was woken by a man covered in sweat in only his boxers asking to sit beside me. Just what you want to wake up to. But it turns out this guys English was fairly solid and he obviously saw me and wanted to practice. We shot the **** for a while and when we eventually stopped at a service station, despite the fact that i’d spent the last of my Vietnamese Dong getting to the bus station, he bought me my last bowl of Pho and a fresh coconut to drink from, refusing to talk the mish mash of notes I had left. Upon arrival to Nanning, the stop over point to get to Guilin, he even translated the name of the hostel I was in and arranged the taxi to take me there. What a complete legend! I’d have been stranded otherwise as the address in Chinese that I had open in a browser on my notebook decided not to open up, leaving me up a creak without a chinese interpreter. Also, entry into China was an absolute breeze. Not sure what I had

  • China – Family Holiday Dec 2002

Date: 2012.01.23 | Category: Chinese Wall Pictures | Response: 0

Clips of videos and pics taken and processed 9 years ago. Most are of my sisters, nieces and nephew. As usual, I don’t think there’s any of me (sigh!). Some memorable moments: 1. Falling on the frozen lake at the Summer Palace and breaking my tail bone 2. A Japanese tourist making a strange request to have a photograph taken with my beautiful nieces. 3. Drinking hot tea with my niece Adillah at a small cosy tea shop (she had a migraine – caffeine withdrawal) while the rest of the family waited for us at another spot due to miscommunication. I don’t remember why I used an Arabic background music (Ron Goodwin) for this montage. The video shots were taken with my Panasonic video camera and still shots with Kodak digital camera.

Entry from: Beijing, China Entry Title: “The Forbidden City” Entry: “Today was the trip to the Forbidden City. Outside the wall of our condo complex , we took a few pictures of the wall carving featuring space science. We took a bus to Tian An Men Square and toured the Square first. Another hot and humid day! The Square was decorated, almost ready for the Olympic games. Themed structures formed by flower pots were positioned at several spots throughout the Square, most of them were still being worked on by workers under the steaming heat. The sky was gray and looked smoky. Once in a while there was a little breeze, warm and sticky but even that would make us feel good. We walked toward the Tian An Men gate, stood under the famous Mao portrait, then proceeded through the gate. Inside the large courtyard behind the gate, there were souvenir stores on both sides of the walkway. We had to stop to buy bottled water or ice-cream often because the heat made you dehydrated fast. Once we were inside the ticketed gate of the Forbidden City, we started walking on the walkway paved with the stone slabs that turned hot in the breeze-less scorching heat. By the time we reached the last hall of the first group of three halls, (Hall of Supreme Harmony, Hall of Medium Harmony, and Hall of Preserved Harmony, we were
